Networking Events – Not advertising(?)

With the inevitable influence of the international regimes, are networking events the new advertising model? If its apparent that it is a form of advertising then should the law in relation to this area be updated with the ages.

The last amendment in this regard came about 16 years back. If the networking events are otherwise not considered as advertising, should a benefit of sorts in some other form be extended to the not so creamy layer of lawyers (if there is one depending on the quality of matters and the income they generate)? The not so creamy still form the majority catering to the need of the masses on an everyday basis!

The Supreme Court and High Courts have tried nudging the BCI in this regard to take a stand on advertising in the Internet era. In the age of the AI, where even simple search results on Google can be manipulated, is it time to have a rethink on advertising or networking or whatever it maybe called! Should it be allowed to exist in a different name or form to a select few?
